Cooperative Education is a partnership between students and companies where employers provide students the opportunity to convert classroom skills and knowledge into valuable, paid experience related to their major that profits the participating companies.
Benefits
Co-Op serves as a guide to assist you in making career decisions and developing goals that are important to you. A Co-Op position can answer questions about your profession and test assumptions you have about what your profession truly entails - before you commit to it. You will gain valuable skills including resumé construction, networking, interviewing techniques, and professional work habits. The Co-Op experience can open the door to full-time employment after graduation. And you can finance portions of your college career in a way that will mean something on your resumé.
Schedule Options
The Co-Op program offers two different scheduling options.
Alternate Schedule
With this option, you alternate semesters of full-time classes with semesters of full-time work.
Parallel Schedule
With this option you work part-time while attending classes. You must take at least 6 hours each semester. You will usually work 15 to 20 hours per week.
Requirements
In order to qualify for the program you must have completed 24 or more hours, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and have the recommendation of two JSU professors.
